Programmer Application - Ian
First name:
Ian
Age:
20
Country:
United States
Do you speak fluent English?
Indeed.
Do you program? If so what language?
Of course, I love programming. I started out with Visual Basic 6.0 several years ago when the Tibia programming was new and Evremonde was king. Anyways, I am currently studying Computer Science at Marquette University, and as a result program in several other languages, including Java, Assembly (Intel and AT&T), and my personal favorite, C#. I am familiar with the .NET framework, and next semester I'll be writing an operating system in C, so I will have that to contribute as well. I also love working with Javascript and PHP and consider myself quite good with CSS (and a moderate graphic designer) [ ianobermiller.com ]. Basically I am comfortable working with any language. Once you learn the concepts the syntax is not really that big of a deal. That said, I can understand code written in most languages, including Delphi and Python, although it would take me some time to process it and a bit more time to write code myself.
If you were accepted as a moderator, what would you like to moderate?
N/A
How often do you visit TP or how often did you visit TP when it was respectable?
Wow, when TProgramming was at its prime, I have to say I visited it many times per day. Now though, I have other priorities, and I usually find time once per day to a few times per week to visit the site. I spend a good time (too much probably) of my free time programming, and that is the real contribution.
What makes you a good addition to the staff. Why would we pick you over someone else?
I've been a programmer before, so I know how to respond to new users and seasoned veterans alike. I enjoy helping people, and I'd like to contribute more tutorials as I go along. I have lots of ideas for content to contribute to this site, and let's face it: content draws in new users and brings old users back, keeping the site alive. I am interested in helping others program and learn something by programming for Tibia. That is my main priority, and I'd also like to provide some programs for general consumption along the way. I pay attention to detail, and like to do things thoroughly the first time around.
Do you have any experience in the position your applying for?
I seriously started programming with some calculators for Tibia some 5 years ago, and spent loads of time developing programs for about two years after that, most of which I was a programmer for TP (you may remember TPR - Tibia Proxy Runemaker, or many of the TibIan Tools). Then I took a break from Tibia for a while to focus on my personal life and college. Recently I have taken it upon myself as a spare time hobby, and have tried to use some of the skills I have learned to develop a standards based API for Tibia (TibiaAPI).
As a TProgramming programmer, would you be willing to provide your sources for verification and compiling?
Everything I release has been (and will continue to be) fully available as open source software.
What could you do or provide to the community if you were accepted?
As I said before, I would be active in helping users with programming and providing tutorials, as well as moderating conversations that I am able to. I would also be able to provide quality open source programs built on good design paradigms. As a program I would be able to provide my programs in a verified way and have complete control over at least my section, which would certainly help advance TibiaAPI, which I think could really help anyone starting to program with Tibia.
Describe your personality in one word
particular/joking/carefree/helpful (so it is more than one word but defining oneself in one-dimension is considerably difficult)
[ Note: I am not trying to "toot my own horn" so to say in the application. I am only trying to accentuate what I have to offer this community. I do not consider myself better than anyone else, and I seek to learn as much as I can from the other programmers and users here. Thanks for taking a look at this, and have a good day! ] TibiaAPI, SharpOT |

I recommended Jaupillows (I love to spell your name wrong Juapillo!) and I'm also recommending you. I've wondered why you haven't applied before. You're awesome programmer and your Tibia API speaks for you! Good Luck!
